Common industries: power electronics, LED lighting, thermal management, and compact electronics assembly.

Secure 48A51R009 is a thermal interface adhesive in the Secure family of double-sided uncured silicone constructions, engineered for thermal bonding applications that require electrical isolation, reliable thermal transfer, and a thinner overall profile than the higher-build Secure grades. The construction places thermally conductive uncured silicone on both sides of a Style 1080 Fiberglass substrate, with the fiberglass providing dielectric isolation and dimensional stability while the silicone adhesive wets out under heat and pressure.

At 0.229 mm overall, the grade is positioned for compact thermal management designs where bondline thickness is constrained.

Mechanical and physical performance includes 85 Shore A durometer, 2.50 specific gravity, 0.427 kg/m² total product weight, and a glass transition temperature of -118°C. Thermally, the material delivers 1.5 W/°C·m thermal conductivity at 100°C and 0.40 °C·in²/W thermal impedance at 380 psi, across an operating range of -101°C to +204°C. Electrically, the dielectric strength is 42.7 kV/mm. The product is UL listed under E54153 with a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating and RTI 150°C/150°C for both mechanical and electrical applications.

The construction is supplied with a 0.038 mm Polyethylene interleave on Side 1 and a 0.051 mm Release PET carrier on Side 2; 0.076 mm of uncured silicone is on each side of the 0.076 mm Style 1080 Fiberglass substrate. Recommended cure cycle is 15 minutes at 250°F and 50 psi. Shelf life is 6 months at a storage temperature of 7.2°C ± 1.6°C, and the manufacturer recommends refrigerated shipment.

Compliant with UL 94 V-0 and UL listing E54153 (RTI 150°C/150°C).

    What differentiates Secure 48A51R009 from the higher-build 48A51R016 or the Kapton-substrate 1500 KT2?

48A51R009 uses the same Style 1080 Fiberglass substrate as 48A51R016, but with 0.076 mm of uncured silicone on each side rather than 0.165 mm — making it the thinner Fiberglass-substrate Secure option at 0.229 mm overall versus 0.406 mm. The thinner adhesive layers reduce thermal impedance (0.40 versus 0.60 °C·in²/W at 380 psi) and raise dielectric strength (42.7 versus 38.9 kV/mm), at the trade-off of less silicone available to wet out and accommodate surface variation.

Compared to the Kapton MT–substrate Secure 1500 KT2, this grade has lower dielectric strength but a fiberglass substrate that provides additional dimensional stability.

Why is dielectric strength important for this application?

The Secure adhesive's primary function is to bond a heat-generating component to a heat sink while keeping the two electrically isolated. The Style 1080 Fiberglass substrate provides that isolation, and the dielectric strength of 42.7 kV/mm per ASTM D149 — paired with UL RTI 150°C/150°C and V-0 flame rating — establishes the voltage withstand and aging performance that allows the bondline to safely separate a powered PCB from a grounded heat sink in LED, power transistor, and similar service.

What is the operating temperature range for Secure 48A51R009?

The operating temperature range is -101°C to +204°C, with a glass transition temperature of -118°C. The UL relative thermal index (RTI) is 150°C for both mechanical and electrical applications.

Is Secure 48A51R009 suitable for UL-rated electronics assemblies?

Yes. The material is UL listed under E54153 with a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating and RTI 150°C/150°C for both mechanical and electrical applications, making it suitable for UL-compliant power electronics, LED, and thermal interface bonding work.

How should Secure 48A51R009 be specified?

Specify grade (Secure 48A51R009), part geometry (die-cut, kiss-cut, slit roll, or sheet), substrate (Style 1080 Fiberglass), overall thickness (0.229 mm) with adhesive build per side (0.076 mm uncured silicone), dielectric performance requirements, UL compliance (UL 94 V-0, E54153 RTI 150°C/150°C), cure cycle, and finished format.
