- Curtain walls, storm windows, solariums, and skylights where a very high density, high modulus polyurethane foam spacer or seal is required
- 2 and 4-sided structural glazing systems requiring a dimensionally stable foam that prevents shifting after assembly
- Auto glass replacement applications where a firm, thermoformable foam compatible with silicones and glazing compounds is specified
- Thermal break components in fenestration and building envelope assemblies, leveraging the R factor of 2.38 per inch
- Vibration damping pads and spacing components in architectural and industrial assemblies requiring a high-modulus, low-compression-set foam

SGT T2040 is a very high density, high modulus open cell polyurethane foam designed for demanding structural glazing and fenestration applications. At a density of 17–23 lb/ft³ and a compression deflection of 30–50 psi at 25% per ASTM D1056, it is specifically designed for use in curtain walls, storm windows, solariums, skylights, auto glass replacement, thermal breaks, 2 and 4-sided structural glazing systems, and vibration damping.
The foam is easy to use for assembly and spacing, prevents shifting after assembly, and is thermoformable to accommodate complex or curved geometries.
The material exhibits a maximum compression set of 3%, confirming strong dimensional recovery under sustained loading — critical in glazing seal applications. Tensile strength is 230 psi and elongation is 140% per ASTM D3574. Tear strength is 25 lb/in per ASTM D624. Resilience is 38% per ASTM D2632. The R factor is 2.38 per inch. The foam is breathable, conforms to uneven surfaces with no voids, and provides excellent surface contact. It is fully compatible with silicones and most glazing compounds and adhesives. FMVSS-302 passes at .063″ or thicker.
Compliant with FMVSS-302 (at .063″ or thicker).
What differentiates the SGT T2040 foam from the SGT T2040GZ and SGT T2040GZD glazing tape grades?
The SGT T2040 is the bare foam version — supplied without any adhesive coating — while the SGT T2040GZ and SGT T2040GZD are the same foam carrier supplied with a single-sided and double-sided permanent acrylic (I645) adhesive respectively, both with a 55# Gold Glassine liner. The bare foam is the appropriate specification when adhesive bonding is handled separately or when the foam is used as a spacer, thermal break, or structural component that will be mechanically retained rather than adhesively bonded.
Why is compression set critical for a structural glazing foam?
Compression set measures how much permanent deformation the foam retains after being held under sustained load. The SGT T2040 has a maximum compression set of 3% per ASTM D1056 — an exceptionally low value for a polyurethane foam — confirming that the material will substantially recover its original thickness after sustained compression in a glazing bite or structural assembly. This is essential for maintaining long-term seal integrity and consistent contact pressure in curtain wall and structural glazing applications.
What is the service temperature range for the SGT T2040?
The SGT T2040 is rated for service from -40°F to 250°F.
Is the SGT T2040 suitable for regulated environments?
The SGT T2040 passes FMVSS-302 at .063" or thicker, as stated on the TDS. No additional compliance standards are specified on the manufacturer's TDS for this material.
How should the SGT T2040 be specified?
Specify grade (SGT T2040), thickness, compliance requirements (FMVSS-302 minimum thickness if applicable), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
