SOLIMIDE® CC-306 is a marine-grade polyimide foam in the SOLIMIDE® range, developed specifically as a lightweight, non-flammable, non-fibrous thermal hull insulation for submarines and other marine vessels. Its non-fibrous construction offers safe handling without the respiratory concerns associated with fibrous insulation materials. The foam can be cut into a variety of shapes and sizes and then faced or coated to meet end user requirements.

CC-306 achieves a density of 0.50 lb/ft³ (8.0 kg/m³), a thermal conductivity of 0.32 (0.046) BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F (W/mK) per ASTM C518, and a maximum continuous use temperature of 400°F (200°C). Flame spread index is ≤ 5 per ASTM E162. Smoke developed index is 3 in non-flaming mode and 5 in flaming mode, both per ASTM E662.

Noise reduction coefficient is 0.75 at 1 in (25mm) thickness per ASTM C423 & E795, Mounting A — providing effective acoustic performance alongside thermal insulation. The material is specified for Electric Boat / Newport News current submarine programs and by BAE Systems for the Astute Program.

No standardized compliance certifications with pass/fail designations are listed in the TDS data table. The material is specified by program as noted above.

What differentiates CC-306 from other SOLIMIDE® foam grades?

CC-306 is the only grade in the SOLIMIDE® range specifically developed for marine hull insulation in naval submarine programs. Its non-fibrous construction provides safe handling and is specified for Electric Boat / Newport News current submarine programs and BAE Systems' Astute Program. It combines thermal performance, low flame spread (≤ 5 per ASTM E162), and acoustic noise reduction (NRC 0.75) in a single material.

Why does thermal conductivity matter for marine hull insulation?

In submarine and marine vessel applications, thermal conductivity determines how effectively hull insulation maintains temperature differentials between the interior and exterior environment. A lower thermal conductivity enables equivalent thermal performance at reduced material thickness and weight — both critical constraints in submarine design. CC-306 achieves a thermal conductivity of 0.32 (0.046) BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F (W/mK) per ASTM C518.

What is the maximum continuous use temperature for CC-306?

CC-306 is rated for continuous use up to 400°F (200°C).

Is CC-306 suitable for naval or regulated marine environments?

CC-306 is specified as insulation for Electric Boat / Newport News current submarine programs and by BAE Systems for the Astute Program. No standardized pass/fail compliance certifications with specific standard designations are listed in the TDS data table. Contact H-O Products to confirm suitability for specific program requirements.

    How should CC-306 be specified?

Specify grade (CC-306), thickness, facing or coating requirements if applicable, program specification requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
