SOLIMIDE® TA-301 is a multi-market polyimide foam in the SOLIMIDE® range, utilized in marine, commercial, and industrial markets as a lightweight, non-flammable thermal and acoustic insulation. It is the only SOLIMIDE® grade listed as compliant with DOD-I-24688 military specification for shipboard insulation, positioning it for naval and commercial marine applications.
Applications include marine hullboard, commercial HVAC duct liner, rail car insulation, cryogenic expansion and contraction joints, and industrial thermal and acoustic insulation. The foam can be cut into a variety of shapes and sizes and then faced or coated to meet end user requirements.
TA-301 achieves a density of 0.40 lb/ft³ (6.4 kg/m³), thermal conductivity of 0.32 (0.046) BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F (W/mK) at 75°F (24°C) per ASTM C518, and a maximum continuous use temperature of 400°F (200°C). Flame spread index is less than 5 per ASTM E84, and smoke developed index is less than 5 per ASTM E662. Limiting oxygen index exceeds 28% per ASTM D2863 and ISO 4589-2:1999.
Noise reduction coefficient is 0.7 at 1 in (25mm) per ASTM C423 & E795, Mounting A. A 50% compression force deflection of 1.2 lb/in² (8.3 kPa) per ASTM D3574 Test C is also listed on the TDS.
Compliant with DOD-I-24688, NFPA 130, US FRA and FTA (Docket 90-A), IMO Fire-Restricting Materials per IMO Resolution MSC.40(64), and ASTM C 1482.
What differentiates TA-301 from other SOLIMIDE® foam grades?
TA-301 is the only SOLIMIDE® grade compliant with DOD-I-24688 military specification, and it spans the broadest range of end markets — marine, HVAC, rail, cryogenic, and industrial — of any single SOLIMIDE® grade. Its compliance portfolio of DOD-I-24688, NFPA 130, US FRA/FTA, and IMO fire-restricting material certification makes it suited for applications requiring multi-market regulatory coverage from a single material. It also provides a listed 50% compression force deflection value of 1.2 lb/in² (8.3 kPa), not present on other SOLIMIDE® grades in this range.
Why does thermal conductivity matter for polyimide foam selection?
Thermal conductivity determines the insulating efficiency of the foam at a given thickness. For marine hullboard, HVAC duct liner, and cryogenic joint applications, achieving the required thermal performance with minimum added weight and thickness is critical. TA-301 achieves a thermal conductivity of 0.32 (0.046) BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F (W/mK) at 75°F (24°C) per ASTM C518.
What is the maximum continuous use temperature for TA-301?
TA-301 is rated for continuous use up to 400°F (200°C).
Is TA-301 suitable for military, rail, or marine regulated environments?
Yes. TA-301 is compliant with DOD-I-24688 for military marine applications, NFPA 130 and US FRA/FTA (Docket 90-A) for rail, and is certified as an IMO fire-restricting material per IMO Resolution MSC.40(64) for marine applications.
How should TA-301 be specified?
Specify grade (TA-301), thickness, facing or coating requirements if applicable, compliance specifications required (e.g., DOD-I-24688, NFPA 130, IMO), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
