Product Overview

278 Atlas Bearing™ Neoprene — Technical Overview & FAQs

Product Overview

278 Atlas Bearing™ Neoprene is a high-performance, structural-grade elastomer developed for bearing pads, vibration isolation, and load transfer systems. Made from polychloroprene (CR), it delivers excellent compression-set resistance, tensile strength, and long-term elasticity, even under continuous pressure and environmental stress.

It’s specifically engineered for bridge bearings, seismic supports, and structural vibration control, providing shock absorption and movement accommodation between beams and supports in both building and transportation infrastructure.

Applications

Bridge and infrastructure bearing pads
Structural and seismic isolation bearings
Industrial machinery and heavy equipment foundations
Precast concrete beam supports and load distribution pads
Rail and tunnel vibration damping

FAQs

What is 278 Atlas Bearing Neoprene used for?
278 Atlas Bearing Neoprene is designed for bridge and building bearing pads, structural supports, and vibration isolation applications requiring consistent performance under compressive load and environmental exposure.

How is 278 different from other Atlas Bearing neoprenes?
It provides a balance between strength and flexibility, featuring a 50A durometer hardness for structural compliance while maintaining high tensile strength and resistance to permanent set.

Is 278 Atlas Bearing Neoprene weather-resistant?
Yes — it offers excellent ozone, UV, and weathering resistance, ensuring durability in outdoor or long-term exposure conditions.

What standards does this neoprene meet?
It complies with AASHTO M251 for plain and laminated elastomeric bearing pads and LRFD Section 18.2 for bridge construction.

Can it be customized or cut to size?
Yes — H-O Products can fabricate custom pads, gaskets, or strips from 278 Atlas Bearing Neoprene to meet specific structural requirements.
