Product Overview

RF-120 Reflective Silicone Heat Shield — Technical Overview & FAQs

Product Overview
RF-120 is a specialty reflective silicone foam composite designed for heat management applications. It consists of an aluminized fabric facing bonded to a low-density silicone foam core. Together, they insulate against heat and reflect radiant energy, making RF-120 ideal for automotive, military and industrial environments where high-temperature protection and lightweight construction are essential.

Applications

Under-hood or under-body automotive shielding
Industrial ovens, furnaces, or exhaust duct insulation
Electronic or vehicle component protection from radiant heat

Performance Advantages
The aluminized fabric gives structural strength, while the flexible silicone foam core provides insulation, low weight and durability under compression. RF-120 is FMVSS-302 flammability rated, offers a service temperature range from around -67 °F to +392 °F, and has excellent thermal reflection performance for radiant heat management.

Key Properties
Typical areal density is up to 0.17 lb/ft² at 0.098″ thickness and up to 0.24 lb/ft² at 0.197″ thickness. Tensile strength is about 20 psi; elongation minimum 60%. Compression set after 22 hours at 212 °F (50% compression) can be as low as 2.4% for certain configurations. Service temperature ranges from -67 °F to +392 °F.

FAQs

What is RF-120?
It is a reflective silicone foam composite composed of an aluminized fabric layer bonded to a silicone foam core, designed for heat-shielding applications.

Where is RF-120 typically used?
Commonly in automotive engine compartments, military vehicle exhaust systems, industrial furnace insulation and protective enclosures subject to radiant heat.

What makes RF-120 different from generic silicone foams?
It combines insulation and radiant reflection—the aluminized facing reflects heat while the silicone foam core insulates—providing a dual-function heat shield and lightweight solution.

What temperature range and fire rating does RF-120 support?
It supports service temperatures roughly from -67 °F to +392 °F and is FMVSS-302 flammability rated.

Can RF-120 be fabricated into custom shapes or thicknesses?
Yes. It is available in multiple thicknesses (e.g., 0.098″ and 0.197″) and can be converted or die-cut per application needs.
