Product Overview
RS-820 Firm Silicone Sponge — Technical Overview & FAQs
Product Overview
RS-820 is a firm grade closed-cell silicone sponge engineered to deliver higher structural integrity while maintaining the lightweight benefits of foam. It is designed for applications where higher compression force, firm sealing, and long-term stability under thermal and environmental stress are required. Its temperature range spans from roughly -67 °F to +392 °F.
Key Properties
Typical density is approximately 25 lb/ft³ (404 kg/m³). Compression force deflection is in the range of approximately 20-32 psi (~320-513 kPa) for typical thicknesses. Compression set is below 5% after 22 hours at 212 °F and 50% compression. Water absorption is about 1%. The material meets UL 94 V-0 flame rating and resists ozone, UV, and long-term environmental exposure.
FAQs
What is RS-820 silicone sponge?
RS-820 is a firm closed-cell silicone sponge designed for demanding gasketing and sealing applications requiring higher closure force and stability.
Where is RS-820 used?
It is used in industrial enclosures, lighting systems, electronic housings, HVAC assemblies, transportation equipment, and other systems requiring durable sealing under stress.
What differentiates RS-820 from softer grades?
RS-820 offers higher density, higher compression force deflection, enhanced structural strength, better load-bearing capability, yet retains silicone foam advantages like low compression set and wide temperature range.
Is RS-820 suitable for harsh environmental conditions?
Yes. RS-820 is designed for very low temperatures (~-67 °F) and high temperatures (~+392 °F), and resists UV, ozone, water and compression-related aging.
