Polyimide Foam — Technical Overview & FAQs
What is Polyimide Foam?
Polyimide Foam is a lightweight, non-wicking foam that offers thermal insulation, acoustic absorption, and low fire/smoke/toxicity performance — ideal where these properties are critical.
Where is Polyimide Foam typically used?
Aircraft and aerospace applications: fuselage panels, under-floor spaces, ECS ducts, equipment housings.
Industrial oven insulation, vent/duct insulation, high-temperature tooling.
Acoustic damping in equipment, enclosures, rail, marine and industrial systems.
What makes Polyimide Foam different?
Ultra-low density (~0.44 lb/ft³) offering high strength-to-weight ratio.
Flame/smoke performance: Smoke Developed Index < 5 in flaming and non-flaming modes.
Thermal conductivity ~0.32 Btu/(h·ft²·°F) at 75 °F (good insulation) and continuous use up to ~400 °F.
Low out-gassing: TML <1.0% and CVCM <0.1% for sensitive aerospace/electronics.
Easily die-cut and fabricated; formaldehyde free.
